Dr. Alaric Hall, University of Leeds
University of Glasgow, University Gardens no 12
November 18th, 2009, Thursday
He failed miserable of presenting an interesting paper about a boring saga, because at the end it turned out to be a rather interesting saga as well as a very interesting paper. He drew attention to the fact that not a lot has been done on these kinds of tales. His treatment of the tale was very interesting and also how he worked with figuring out the stemma for the text was also intriguing to hear about.
I was lucky enough that after a few drinks at the post-grad club I got to go with them to a dinner on Byres Road. It was very nice meeting Dr. Alaric Hall, mainly because it is always nice to meet other people, but also because he speaks Icelandic (or Old Norse) and is interested in medieval material. It was nice to just sit there and discuss the teaching environment regarding ON and related studies and it didn't spoil that the food was excellent, just as the company was.
