Early Scottish Football and the workplace in 1865 - 1902

I am not incredibly interested in football, aside from the fact that my grandfather used to play as a professional back home and was part of the national team.  But I was curious about what I would be facing at this talk.  I very quickly realised that I had to ditch all interest in following the multitude of football clubs and names associated with them because I had nothing to link it to in the real world.  What was interesting was listening to the development of football as a sport and how the clubs and the industrial environment of Glasgow was a part of it.  It almost feels like I have received a small glimpse and insight into the world of football, not just how it started but how it is today.
This was a great paper and there were great many things of interest included in there, but the problem was that McDowell talks ridiculously fast and at times it was hard to differentiate words let alone sentences when he was at full speed.  However his talk was fascinating and I never found myself nodding off!
